To get you in the holiday mood, we’re off to la Belle France today. Picture the scene. You are driving along, suitcases in the back (possibly along with a handful of grizzly children), when suddenly you have reached your destination. At last. The delightful little sea resort of Dives-sur-Mer (yes, really).
Only one problem. You search in vain for a sign for the hotel (yes I do have GPS, shut up at the back) and you are met by a forest of lurid and conflicting signs. Turn left. Turn right. Go straight on (you get the idea). Arrows in all directions. And no chance at all of finding one that will show you the way to your hotel Le Lion d’Or (you get a special prize for getting that pun).
So the council members have decided to take matters into their own hands. A local order will regulate size, lighting, technologies used, and so on, to fight this “visual pollution”. Quelle horreur.
However. Never let it be said that the French administration might do things in a hurry. The process was started on 7 January 2021. The hope is that the rules will be circulated by early 2024.
In the meantime, good luck with finding that hotel.
Have a good weekend
